The intersection of college sports and digital infrastructure is officially heating up. Digital asset and artificial intelligence company Galaxy Digital has just secured a massive 15-year naming rights agreement with Texas Tech University. Beginning in the 2026 college football season, the university’s iconic venue will be officially known as Galaxy Stadium.

Welcome to Galaxy Stadium: More Than Just a Name

Fans won’t have to wait long to see the rebranded venue in action. Galaxy Stadium is slated to make its grand debut on September 5, 2026, when the Texas Tech Red Raiders kick off their season opener against Abilene Christian. While the exact financial terms of this historic agreement remain under wraps, the partnership extends far beyond putting a new logo on the stadium. Galaxy Digital is stepping in as the official data center and digital assets partner of Texas Tech Athletics.

This deep collaboration aims to bring real value to the university’s community. The two organizations are already planning to roll out innovative name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities for student-athletes, alongside new artificial intelligence initiatives and workforce development programs. This makes perfect strategic sense for Galaxy, which is actively expanding its footprint in West Texas. The company already operates the sprawling Helios data center campus in Dickens County, just 60 miles east of Lubbock. That massive facility boasts 1.6 gigawatts of approved capacity, entirely dedicated to powering high-performance computing and cutting-edge AI.

Texas Cements Its Status as a Crypto and AI Powerhouse

This landmark stadium deal perfectly highlights a much larger trend: Texas is rapidly transforming into the ultimate hub for the cryptocurrency and digital infrastructure industries. The Lone Star State is seamlessly blending massive Bitcoin mining investments with rising political influence and incredibly proactive, pro-crypto legislation. Today, Texas is home to heavy hitters in the mining and infrastructure space, hosting major operations for companies like Riot Platforms, Cipher Mining, Core Scientific, CleanSpark, IREN, and Hut 8.

The business moves happening across the state are staggering. Earlier this year, Bitcoin mining hardware giant Canaan dropped nearly $40 million to acquire a 49% stake in three operational Texas mining facilities from Cipher Mining. Shortly after, MARA Holdings unveiled ambitious plans to acquire a 2-gigawatt powered site in Texas to build out a dual-purpose digital campus for both high-performance computing and Bitcoin mining.

Beyond the corporate investments, Texas has become the epicenter of crypto-backed political action. Industry-affiliated political action committees poured more than $10 million into supporting candidates during the Texas congressional primary runoffs this past May, securing victories for all six of their backed politicians. The state government is actively backing the industry, too. Following Governor Greg Abbott’s signing of legislation to create the Texas Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, state officials have already begun the process of shifting the reserve’s assets from spot Bitcoin ETFs into directly custodied Bitcoin, proving that Texas is playing the long game in the digital asset space.
