Semler Scientific has taken a bold step in expanding its cryptocurrency holdings, announcing the acquisition of 455 Bitcoin for approximately $50 million. The purchase, made between May 13 and May 22, 2025, was disclosed in a recent SEC filing. The average price paid per Bitcoin was around $109,801.
This latest buy brings Semler’s total Bitcoin holdings to 4,264 BTC, currently valued at about $474.4 million based on market prices. The move further solidifies the company’s position among the top publicly traded firms investing heavily in Bitcoin as a treasury asset.
Funded Through Equity Program
To fund the acquisition, Semler utilized proceeds from its ongoing at-the-market (ATM) equity program, which has raised nearly $114.8 million since April 2025. This strategic use of capital demonstrates the company’s commitment to diversifying its balance sheet with digital assets.
Eric Semler, Chairman of Semler Scientific, pointed to the company’s strong Bitcoin performance—boasting a 25.8% year-to-date yield—as a key reason for the investment. He emphasized the long-term growth potential of Bitcoin and highlighted the company’s transparency, citing their public-facing Bitcoin Dashboard that tracks and reports holdings in real time.
A Growing Trend in Institutional Bitcoin Adoption
Semler’s move comes amid a broader wave of institutional adoption in 2025. Over 40 publicly traded companies now hold Bitcoin as part of their treasury strategy, signaling a shift in how corporations are managing reserves. By taking such an aggressive approach to crypto investment, Semler Scientific is positioning itself as a pioneer in this emerging financial trend.
With continued market volatility and inflation concerns, Bitcoin’s appeal as a hedge and high-growth asset continues to gain traction among forward-thinking businesses. Semler’s investment strategy reflects confidence not just in Bitcoin’s price, but in its role as a long-term financial instrument.
As institutional interest grows, all eyes will be on companies like Semler Scientific that are leading the charge into this digital frontier.
