US President Donald Trump is pushing hard to cement his administration’s approach to digital assets, claiming he can “future-proof” cryptocurrency regulation through a major piece of pending legislation. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump declared his intention to codify a permanent market framework for digital assets, directly throwing his weight behind the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act—commonly known as the CLARITY Act.
Trump argued that passing the law is essential to prevent “crypto haters” in future administrations from tearing down or rolling back regulatory frameworks. The move echoes previous statements from SEC Chair Paul Atkins, who has also advocated for “future-proofing” agency policies against sudden political shifts. However, despite the high-level backing, the bill’s path through Congress is growing increasingly complicated due to intensifying scrutiny over the Trump family’s personal financial ties to the crypto industry.
Inside the Senate Delays and the Battle Over Ethics
The CLARITY Act comfortably passed the House of Representatives back in July 2025, but it has hit a wall of delays in the Senate. The legislative gridlock stems from a mix of government shutdowns, heavy pushback from both banking and crypto industry representatives, and a brewing battle over ethics provisions. Because Republicans hold only a slim majority in the Senate, leadership will need to secure Democratic votes to pass the bill. Several lawmakers have already signaled they will block the legislation unless strict conflict-of-interest rules are added.
These ethical concerns hit close to home for the White House. The president and his sons maintain high-profile ties to several digital asset ventures, including the World Liberty Financial platform, its native stablecoin, and a Bitcoin mining operation. Critics argue that passing sweeping regulatory overhauls while the first family actively participates in the market creates an institutional conflict of interest.
The market has shown signs of nervousness amid the political friction. Shortly after Trump made his social media pledge to “never let crypto down,” the price of Bitcoin dipped from over $74,000 to under $73,000, eventually stabilizing around $73,467. While industry insiders like DeFi Technologies President Andrew Forson note that fully reversing established regulations is difficult for future administrations, sudden policy pivots can still make compliance incredibly burdensome for crypto firms.
The Clash Over Prediction Markets and Jurisdictional Lines
The debate over the CLARITY Act isn’t the only front in Trump’s regulatory push. The president also recently backed Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Michael Selig’s assertion that the CFTC holds “exclusive jurisdiction” over decentralized prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket. This sector of the industry has also drawn personal scrutiny, as Donald Trump Jr. currently serves as an adviser to both platforms.
The fight over prediction markets is rapidly heating up outside of Washington. Multiple state authorities have launched lawsuits against these platforms, alleging they are operating unlicensed sports betting operations. In response, the CFTC has filed countersuits to defend its regulatory turf.
As the CLARITY Act faces upcoming markups and a highly anticipated full Senate vote, the intersection of national policy and private family business remains the central flashpoint. Whether Congress can strike a deal on ethics to pass the bill—and truly “future-proof” the market—remains to be seen.
