Corporate accumulation of digital assets is entering a new phase, and Bitmine Immersion Technologies is leading the charge on the Ethereum front. In a major move that highlights shifting market dynamics, the company has significantly bolstered its crypto treasury, aggressively buying up Ether (ETH) while the broader market watches Bitcoin (BTC) temporarily take a back seat.
Bitmine’s Aggressive Ethereum Accumulation and Staking Strategy
Bitmine Immersion Technologies continues to cement its position as the world’s largest corporate holder of Ethereum. Over the past week, the company snapped up nearly 10,000 additional ETH. This recent acquisition pushes their total holdings to an impressive 5.79 million Ether, which represents roughly 4.8% of the cryptocurrency’s entire circulating supply. As of late July, Bitmine’s formidable balance sheet—comprising crypto holdings, cash, and marketable securities—reached a staggering $11.8 billion.
What makes Bitmine’s approach uniquely profitable is its heavy focus on staking. Rather than simply letting the assets sit idle in cold storage, the company has activated the vast majority of its treasury to generate passive income. According to recent disclosures, approximately 4.9 million ETH, or about 85% of their total holdings, are currently locked into validator operations. Once this entire stash is fully deployed across their internal infrastructure and partner networks, Bitmine projects it will generate around $299 million in annualized staking rewards.
Ether Momentum Shifts as Bitmine Diverges from Strategy’s Bitcoin Path
The timing of Bitmine’s latest purchasing spree aligns closely with a noticeable shift in cryptocurrency market performance. Over the past week, Ether has visibly outperformed the market leader, gaining 2.4% while Bitcoin slipped by roughly 0.7%. Tom Lee, Chairman of Bitmine, noted in Monday’s announcement that the ETH/BTC ratio recently hit a three-month high, signaling strong and growing momentum for Ethereum over Bitcoin.
This aggressive Ethereum-first approach stands in stark contrast to other major institutional players, most notably “Strategy.” While Bitmine ranks second only to Strategy in terms of overall digital asset value among public companies, their current playbooks look very different. Strategy has notably hit pause on its Bitcoin purchases in recent weeks. Instead, Strategy has focused on strengthening its traditional financial position by raising $544.5 million through stock sales, repurchasing $25 million of its preferred shares, and bulking up its US dollar reserves to $3.75 billion—all while sitting on a massive reserve of 843,775 BTC.
