Poșta Română, Romania’s national postal service, has taken a major step toward digital innovation by launching a pilot project in collaboration with BTR Exchange. The initiative involves installing cryptocurrency funding terminals in post offices across the country, starting with the first unit now live at Post Office 1 in Tulcea.
These terminals allow users to deposit cash directly into their Bitcoin Romania accounts, making cryptocurrency more accessible to the general public—especially in areas with limited access to digital financial services.
Expanding Access to Digital Finance Across Romania
The pilot program aims to bridge the digital divide by bringing financial technology to underserved communities. In the coming weeks, additional terminals will be installed in four more cities: Alexandria, Piatra Neamț, Botoșani, and Nădlac.
By utilizing Poșta Română’s vast national network, the project makes it easier for people—particularly those in rural or less tech-connected areas—to engage with digital assets like Bitcoin. This approach not only promotes financial inclusion but also reflects a broader effort to modernize essential public services.
A Strategic Move in Poșta Română’s Digital Transformation
This project is part of Poșta Română’s long-term strategy to embrace digital transformation and redefine its role in the modern economy. The organization has already made significant strides in recent years: launching Romania’s first official NFT in 2022 and running a national campaign in 2023 to honor anti-communist heroes through digital storytelling.
With the introduction of crypto terminals, Poșta Română continues to blend its historic legacy with modern innovation—demonstrating a strong commitment to keeping pace with global financial and technological trends.
By offering new digital services through trusted local post offices, this initiative could serve as a model for public institutions worldwide seeking to make emerging technologies more accessible to everyday citizens.
